Ectopic pregnancy is the condition where a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus. The site of implantation can be fallopian tubes, ovaries, abdominal cavities, or other organs. Tubal pregnancy (fetus in fallopian tube) is the most common ectopic pregnancy type.
Although it gets implanted, a fertilized egg cannot normally develop outside the uterus. In rare and severe cases, ectopic pregnancy may result in life-threatening complications, and thus it’s mandatory to remove the ectopic tissues as early as possible. Depending on how far along you have been in your pregnancy when the doctor has diagnosed extrauterine pregnancy and its associated, a gynecologist or an obstetrician-gynecologist may use medicines, abdominal surgery, or D&C or laparoscopic method to terminate the pregnancy.
